Baghdad Operations Command reports drop in crime rate in July

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Baghdad Operations Command on Sunday announced a marked decline in organized and criminal offenses during July, citing the results of security operations carried out across the capital. The command said a large number of suspects were detained under various legal provisions and that judicial arrest warrants were executed during the period. Security forces seized 662 weapons of various types and registered more than 6,000 weapons under the state weapons registration program, according to the statement. Traffic authorities processed 65,079 vehicles and motorcycles for violations of traffic rules. The command added that several drug trafficking networks were dismantled, with narcotics and related paraphernalia confiscated, along with unlicensed ammunition, materials and equipment of different categories.
