Gaza deal includes clause to cover Hamas's $400 million debt, Israeli media reports

An Israeli broadcaster reported that the Gaza agreement signed between mediators and the "Peace Council" contains a provision to pay off more than $400 million in debts owed by Hamas. The network said the clause appears in Article 5 of the deal and is written in deliberately vague language, with the funds directed to suppliers and contractors who are creditors of Hamas. A source within the Peace Council confirmed the arrangement, saying payments would be made to government employees who have not received their salaries, contractors providing services, and suppliers serving Gaza residents. The same period is expected to address broader arrangements for Gaza's future and plans for the collection of weapons. The same Israeli outlet reported last week that a draft being worked on would offer "thousands of dollars" and inclusion in a rehabilitation program to individuals who surrender their weapons and halt armed activity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly opposed the plan presented by the United States and accepted by Hamas.
