Kermanshah literary scene faces stagnation despite rich poetic heritage, poets say

KERMANSHAH, Iran — The literary scene in Iran's western Kermanshah province has entered a period of stagnation in recent years, despite its long history of producing poets and writers for Kurdish and Persian literature, local cultural figures said. Poet Hossein Hazyai told Mehr news agency that the current poetry environment lacks major events and guiding movements, while the influence of experienced figures has waned. He said the absence of comprehensive regulatory programs in the cultural field is the main cause of decline and called for the restructuring of literary associations. Poet Milad Hani said literary production should be connected to social realities, noting that specialized literary criticism helps young writers develop their skills and that interaction between authors and readers is a fundamental measure in improving works. Writer Tahire Terabi added that local literature and folklore in Kermanshah have been neglected for a long time, although recent efforts to revive them have begun. She said that despite the spread of digital media, face-to-face cultural gatherings remain more effective in supporting young talent. Cultural circles in the province said Kermanshah retains the creative capacity to regain literary vitality if institutional support and a suitable environment are provided.
