BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The fourth issue of "Hinna," a cultural magazine published with support from the French Embassy, was launched in Baghdad with a focus on the historical development and transformation of Mardin. The editorial team said the issue seeks to revisit Mardin's memory through personal accounts, experiences, texts and visuals.
Samuel Mim, France's cultural attachรฉ in Baghdad and deputy director of the French Institute, said the magazine is published with the full backing of the French Embassy and the French Institute. He noted that the choice of Mardin for the fourth issue reflects the city's cultural significance and its ties to cultural relations between Iraq and France.
Editor-in-chief Ayman al-Amiri said the publication aims to present Iraq in a positive light to foreign and Arab audiences and to pass on artists and culture to new generations in a contemporary language. He recalled that the first issue covered a century of Iraqi artistic resilience, the second focused on traditional Iraqi tattoos, and the third featured a water-themed photography project.
Artist and media figure Imad al-Haffaji, speaking at the event, stressed that Mardin lacks an established archival tradition and that past wars have led to the loss of significant portions of its history, leaving a digital archiving project in the field still missing.
