Officers used stun grenades to disperse the crowd, which had gathered several blocks from the Manhattan arena in the city's midtown area. Authorities had earlier canceled planned outdoor watch parties in the neighborhood over concerns about possible unrest. Security around the venue was heightened, with police presence reinforced across midtown as the game drew large numbers of fans. Game 3 of the series had seen 21 arrests, charges filed against eight people and four officers injured, according to police. Spurs supporters were targeted during that earlier game in New York, prompting the team's star player Victor Wembanyama to call the incident "unacceptable."
