ERBIL, Iraq โ A high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government is preparing to visit Baghdad to discuss the implementation of recent amendments to Iraq's law on political detainees. Kurdistan Region Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs Director General Ahmed Mam Rasul said the talks will focus on ensuring political detainees in the region receive the same financial rights and benefits as their counterparts in other Iraqi provinces.
Rasul noted that the required financial allocations must be provided within the federal budget in order to complete the procedures. He added that implementing the amendments will align salaries and financial entitlements of all political detainees across Iraq, including those held in the Kurdistan Region.
The Iraqi Parliament approved changes to the law last year, setting the stage for a unified national framework. According to the source, officials in the Kurdistan Region have pressed for years for the long-running issue to be resolved, and the new step is viewed as progress in redefining the legal and financial status of political detainees in the region. No further details on the delegation's travel date or meeting agenda were immediately available.
