ERBIL, Iraq โ€” Erbil city police said an initial investigation into the wounding of Mokri Hussein Yezdan Bana, son of Iranian Kurdish opposition leader Hussein Yezdan Bana, found no link to a terrorist act. In a statement, the police said the man was injured in an "unfortunate incident" on Aug. 3 and that an inquiry was launched immediately afterward. The investigation is being carried out in coordination with the city's criminal evidence unit, according to the statement. Initial findings indicate no terrorist connection, and police said legal steps are being taken to determine all circumstances of the incident. On Tuesday, Kurdistan Freedom Party official Ribaz Sharifi said Yezdan Bana's son had been shot near the Italian Village 2 Complex in Erbil in what he described as an assassination attempt. Hussein Yezdan Bana heads the party's military wing. The Erbil police statement said final conclusions would be made public once the investigation is completed.
