BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Environmental expert Uday al-Rubaie stated on Monday, June 1, 2026, that the recent release of ducklings into Iraqi rivers has drawn public attention to the importance of protecting water ecosystems.
Activists have released dozens of ducklings into various water channels in recent days, a move al-Rubaie noted was intended to highlight the aesthetic and ecological value of the country's rivers.
Al-Rubaie cautioned that the ducklings face significant survival risks due to strong currents and local predators, as they are not accustomed to the river environment without human care.
While acknowledging the positive impact on public awareness regarding biodiversity, he emphasized that future environmental initiatives must be conducted according to scientific principles to avoid harming wildlife or local ecosystems.
