Eight local clubs in Iraq have qualified for the Asian licensing required to compete in continental tournaments in the 2026-2027 season, the Iraq Football Association’s Licensing Department said. The approval clears the way for the clubs to represent Iraq in Asia-wide competitions next season.
The Licensing Committee carried out field visits to all clubs that applied, then reviewed and discussed their submitted files under the continental licensing system. After the file audits were completed, a vote was held to determine which clubs met the criteria.
The committee approved AFC licenses for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Shorta, Erbil, Al-Zawraa, Al-Karma, Zakho, Duhok and Al-Kahraba.
With the licenses secured, the eight clubs are now eligible to take part in continental championships and represent Iraq in the 2026-2027 season.
