Erbil received more than 70,000 tourists in recent days as the Eid al-Adha holiday drew visitors from central and southern Iraq, Erbil Governor Umid Hoşnav said. He said the influx underscores the city’s growing tourism appeal and the effectiveness of current arrangements to manage visitor movement and entry procedures.
Hoşnav said 6,000 to 7,000 people from the provinces of central and southern Iraq have been arriving in Erbil each day. He said measures are continuing to direct visitors to tourist areas and to facilitate entry procedures.
He said this year’s holiday season has been more active than last year’s Eid al-Adha period, attributing the increase to the mild weather, natural attractions and new arrangements.
The local administration has begun implementing a new strategy to develop the tourism sector, Hoşnav said, adding that further growth in visitor numbers is expected in the coming days.
