ERBIL, Iraq โ A drone strike hit a camp belonging to an Iranian Kurdish opposition group in a mountainous area northeast of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, security sources told Reuters. An explosion was heard at the site, according to the report, which said the type of drone used had not yet been identified.
The strike took place on Tuesday. The area where the camp is located has previously been the target of security operations and airstrikes against Iranian Kurdish opposition groups operating in the rugged terrain of northeastern Kurdistan Region.
No group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of publication, and neither the Kurdistan Regional Government nor Iraqi federal authorities had issued an official statement on the nature of the targets or the party behind the strike.
Reuters attributed the information to unnamed security sources.
