WASHINGTON, United States — KOYSIJNCK (KOYE), Kurdistan Region — A refugee camp in the Koysijnck (Koye) area north of Erbil was struck by a drone on Tuesday at 22:05 local time, the Kurdistan Region Security Council said. The council said an unmanned aircraft fell on one of the camp's residential structures, causing no casualties but heavy material damage to the building. Karim Purveizi, a member of the executive council of the Iranian Kurdish Democratic Party, identified the target as the Zivi Spi refugee camp in Koysijnck district. No further details on the party responsible for the strike were provided by the Security Council. The attack comes amid a wider pattern of drone strikes in the Kurdistan Region during periods of regional tension between Washington and Tehran. Around 600 drone strikes were recorded before the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure and economic facilities, according to previously reported figures. The Security Council said it did not immediately have additional information on who carried out the strike.
