BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The U.S. dollar opened the new week with a modest gain against the Iraqi dinar in the free markets of Baghdad and Erbil on Saturday morning. On the Kifach and Harteye stock exchanges in Baghdad, 100 dollars were bought at 154,750 dinars, up from 154,600 dinars recorded the previous Thursday, according to a local market correspondent. Exchange offices in the capital quoted a selling rate of 155,250 dinars and a buying rate of 154,250 dinars per 100 dollars. A similar movement was reported in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, where 100 dollars were sold for 155,000 dinars and bought at 154,900 dinars. The parallel-market rates continue to trade above Iraq's official exchange rate set by the central bank, though the gap has narrowed from earlier peaks seen in recent years.
