Diyala Provincial Police Command said a man has been detained in Al-Azim after allegedly demanding illegal payments from vehicle owners transporting melon loads. The case was uncovered after a tip prompted security teams to deploy to the area, highlighting continued enforcement against unlawful roadside collection schemes.
Police said the suspect took the vehicles’ documents and directed the drivers to the central sales area. After an inspection by police teams, proceedings were launched against him and the case file was referred to the judiciary.
A court ordered the suspect’s detention under Article 451 of the Iraqi Penal Code. Security forces said the investigation was part of ongoing action against people who exploit citizens and carry out unlawful procedures.
