PHILADELPHIA โ France head coach Didier Deschamps said Kylian Mbappe will break World Cup scoring records, speaking after France beat Iraq 3-0 in a friendly on Wednesday. Mbappe marked his 100th cap with two goals, taking his World Cup tally to 16 and equaling Miroslav Klose's all-time tournament record.
Deschamps told reporters that records exist to be broken, predicting Mbappe will keep scoring and surpass his rivals. He cited Lionel Messi of Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal as examples of long-career scorers, saying Mbappe, even if he does not play to the same age, will continue to match records as long as he remains on the pitch.
The match in Philadelphia was delayed for an extended period because of rain, with roughly three hours separating Mbappe's two goals. The France captain is now two goals behind Messi, who has scored 18 World Cup goals.
