BOGOTA, Colombia โ The death toll from a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10 has risen to 241, the country's Asocapitales association said in a statement on social media. The association reported 1,762 people were injured and 279 remained missing.
The quake's epicenter was located in the Chocรณ region, and the tremor was felt across much of Colombia as well as in neighboring countries. The association said the highest alert level was being maintained nationwide due to the possibility of aftershocks.
The earthquake caused 257 buildings to collapse and inflicted heavy damage on homes, schools, roads, airports and other critical infrastructure, according to the statement. No further details were immediately available.
