Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa 2-1 to win UEFA Super Cup

PARIS, France — PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup final at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday to claim the European trophy for the second consecutive year. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for the French side in the 20th minute before Brennan Johnson equalized for Aston Villa in stoppage time at the end of the first half. Midfielder Désiré Doué put PSG back in front in the 61st minute, and the French club held on to seal the 2-1 victory. The win extended PSG's hold on the Super Cup after they beat Tottenham on penalties last season to win the competition for the first time. The Super Cup traditionally pits the winners of the Champions League against the holders of the Europa League.
