BAGHDAD, Iraq — LONDON — Only six vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz by 07:00 local time on Tuesday, according to shipping data from Kpler cited by Reuters, down from a daily average of 11 over the previous ten days. Before the war, the same route typically recorded 130 to 140 ship passages per day. Kpler figures showed four vessels entering the strait in the morning hours and two exiting. Traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait remained comparatively steady, with 25 ships passing on Monday against a ten-day average of 24. The decline in Hormuz transits coincides with a lack of progress in U.S.–Iran talks aimed at ending the war and reaching an agreement. On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump demanded compensation from Iran for those killed in the wars, attacks and protests, a position that mirrored Iran's own demands for compensation and the lifting of sanctions — terms that had been part of a preliminary deal signed in June before collapsing.
