BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected a request by Degle University and Police clubs to suspend upcoming supplementary elections at the Iraq Basketball Federation, the federation's legal adviser, Walid Mohammed Ali Shubaybi, said.
The two clubs had filed for provisional measures seeking to halt the supplementary polls for the federation president, first vice president and a women's member, and to block the national arbitration center's decision from being forwarded to FIBA and the Iraqi Olympic Committee. CAS, through its appeals division president Corinne Schmidhauser, dismissed all claims, according to Shubaybi.
The ruling leaves the Iraq Basketball Federation free to proceed with the supplementary elections for the three positions, with no legal impediment remaining following the CAS decision. Shubaybi said the process can now move forward without obstacle.
