Basra security operation seizes 3 kilograms of drugs, arrests one suspect

BASRA, Iraq — Security forces in Basra seized 3 kilograms of narcotics and arrested one suspect in a preventive operation, the city's Directorate for Narcotics Affairs said on Tuesday. The directorate said in a written statement that intelligence work and field surveillance led to the seizure of 2 kilograms of marijuana and 1 kilogram of crystal narcotics. The operation was carried out as part of security efforts to track drug smuggling networks and distributors, it added. The suspect's activities were disrupted, and the case has been referred to the competent authorities for judicial investigation, according to the statement. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect, and the seized material has been preserved as evidence. The directorate said preventive operations targeting narcotics in Basra would continue.
