Baghdad hospital records 12 eye injuries from fireworks, games during Eid

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Ibn al-Haytham Teaching Hospital in Baghdad received 12 cases of eye injuries during the Eid al-Adha holiday caused by fireworks and “sijim” games, the hospital said. Most of the patients were children, according to Dr. Walid Hamid Jasim, the hospital director under the Health Ministry. Jasim said some of the injuries required immediate surgery, while other patients received intensive treatment. He called for legal action against those who sell and use such products. He also urged families to be made aware that the games can cause injuries to the eyes, face, burns and limbs.
