Baghdad court sentences two to death for murder and robbery

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A Baghdad criminal court has sentenced two defendants to death on charges of premeditated murder and robbery, the Karkh Police Command announced. The Karkh Second Felony Court ruled unanimously that the defendants killed the victim deliberately to steal his money. According to the police statement, the two defendants attempted to mislead the investigation by claiming the victim had died from a bull's horn strike. They smeared the bull's horns with blood in an effort to blame the animal for the killing. Detectors from the Karkh Homicide Desk conducted a detailed examination of the crime scene and determined the account was false. Following the investigation, both suspects were detained and referred to court. After the legal process was completed, the court handed down the death sentence for premeditated murder and robbery. The police command did not provide further details on the identities of the defendants or the victim.
