Iraq sends one lifter to Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Iraqi Weightlifting Federation has announced that Iraq is sending a single athlete, junior lifter Mustafa Musa, to the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The federation said Musa will compete against some of the continent's top weightlifters at the tournament, which began in the Uzbek capital. Federation President Mohammed Kadhim Muzel said Musa has strong technical and physical capacity and expressed confidence that the athlete would achieve a respectable result for Iraq. Musa underwent a training camp in Baghdad before traveling to Tashkent for the championships. Muzel noted that the Asian championships offer Musa a valuable opportunity to test his level against leading lifters from across the continent. He added that Musa will continue to compete in subsequent events as part of Iraq's international program leading to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
