The visit of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Mesrur Barzani to Baghdad brought renewed attention to relations between the federal government and the region, with both sides stressing dialogue and constitutional solutions to outstanding disputes. The discussions matter because they touched on political, administrative and economic files that continue to shape ties between Baghdad and Erbil.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Ali Zeydi, Barzani said any solution should be found within the constitution and in line with the federal system. Zeydi said all Iraqis are part of the same homeland and underscored shared responsibility for overcoming political and administrative problems.
The talks also covered technical and economic dossiers, including the management of border crossings, the Asycuda system and oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region. These issues remain central to revenue collection, customs procedures and energy administration.
Barzani also met separately with the President of the Higher Judicial Council and the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. Those meetings focused on political developments and the role of constitutional institutions.
