12th Seyyidat al-Shuhada al-Shaibaker commemoration held in Saladin

TIKRIT, Iraq — A 12th-anniversary commemoration began Tuesday in Saladin province for the military cadets killed in a 2014 Islamic State (ISIS) attack, with families of the fallen, religious figures and political officials attending the ceremony in central Tikrit, part of Kirkuk governorate. The event honored the memory of Martyr Lt. Gen. Pilot Majid Abd al-Salam Ashour (al-Shaibaker) and the military cadets who were killed by ISIS. Organizers said Quran recitations and prayers were held for the victims during the program. The 2014 attack, known as the Camp Speicher massacre, remains one of the deadliest single incidents of the ISIS campaign in Iraq.
