Six held in land fraud probe at Nasiriya municipality, Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council says

DHI QAR, Iraq — Iraqi authorities have detained six suspects as part of a land fraud investigation targeting the Nasiriya municipality in Dhi Qar province, the Supreme Judicial Council said. The council said in a written statement on Friday that the Nasiriya Court of Appeal's investigation division had apprehended a group comprising municipal employees and intermediaries. Searches of the suspects and their workplaces produced seals linked to residential land plots, official correspondence, records, powers of attorney and forged documents, according to the statement. The inquiry covers land transfers and property registration procedures carried out using counterfeit paperwork, the council added. Further details on the number of people taken into custody and the volume of seized documents are expected to be clarified as the investigation proceeds.
