Zeydi Orders Accelerated Reconstruction Work in Samarra

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zeydi met with a delegation from the Military Shrine in Samarra on Saturday, June 6, 2026, and instructed officials to accelerate reconstruction and development projects in the city. According to a statement from the prime minister's media office, Zeydi received the delegation led by Secretary General Nafi Cemil Halef. They discussed ongoing reconstruction work, service projects and infrastructure improvements being carried out by the institution. Zeydi directed relevant authorities to provide optimal conditions for the projects and increase the pace of completion. The prime minister called for continued efforts to strengthen Samarra's religious, historical and service significance. He also ordered work on new service projects to meet visitor needs, expansion of the shrine courtyard, and a feasibility study for hotels and tourism facilities. Zeydi further instructed officials to take necessary steps to repair damage and cracks along the Baghdad-Samarra road.
