Young Man Drowns While Swimming in Diyala River

DIYALA, Iraq — A young man born in 1998 drowned while swimming in the Diyala River in northeastern Diyala province on Tuesday evening, according to Diyale Police Directorate. The incident occurred in the Tibic area near the city of Khales, located northeast of the provincial capital. Emergency teams recovered the body from the water and transferred it to the forensic medicine department to complete legal procedures. The police directorate said an investigation into the incident is underway and all aspects of the case are being examined. Authorities have repeatedly warned citizens against swimming in rivers and water sources outside designated areas, citing a rise in similar drowning incidents across the region that has raised concerns among security services.
