Yemen's Houthis claim missile strike on Saudi oil tanker in Red Sea

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Yemen's Houthi movement said on Monday it targeted a Saudi oil tanker with a ballistic missile off the Saudi port of Yanbu in the eastern Red Sea. The group also said it carried out attacks on military positions in Yemen's Al-Abr, Al-Wadi'a and Al-Kanais areas using ballistic missiles and drones. Tensions between the Houthis and government forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition have been escalating for more than a month across several Yemeni cities. The fighting intensified after Houthi missile and drone strikes on camps held by government forces in Marib, Hadramut and the western coast, as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia. On July 20, the Houthis announced a maritime navigation ban targeting Saudi Arabia and carried out successive attacks on Saudi vessels in the Red Sea. The latest claimed strikes came as part of that broader campaign against Saudi maritime targets.
