MOSUL, Iraq — Wounded members of the Iraqi army gathered in front of Mosul’s municipal building in Nineveh province to demand the distribution of residential land plots they say were promised to them. The protesters told the Shaheed news agency that they have completed the required paperwork, but their files have remained pending for years. They said land allotment files have been held at the relevant institutions since 2019, and that they have documented their entitlements with official papers and receipts. According to the participants, the Defense Ministry, the Army’s General Staff and the federal government have expressed support for their demands, but the distribution process has not moved forward. They noted that land has been delivered to other groups in previous years, while army and police personnel continue to wait for their allotments to be processed. The demonstrators said they are asking the prime minister, the Army’s General Staff and Nineveh’s local authorities to resolve the issue. They added that they will continue protesting until their families’ right to adequate housing is secured.
