Woman dies after falling from balcony in Erbil; sister detained

ERBIL, Iraq — A woman died after falling from the balcony of her apartment in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, according to a statement from the Erbil Police Directorate. Police identified the woman as Azra Fars, also known as Melek Fars, and said the incident occurred two days earlier at the Gencen City residential complex. Officers said the woman had returned home with her sister at around 7:00 a.m. in an intoxicated state and argued with her over where to park the car before jumping from the balcony. Security sources said the woman worked at a nightclub in the city center and that the scene was cordoned off before her body was transferred to the forensic morgue.
