Meta has introduced three new security updates for WhatsApp aimed at strengthening user protection against account takeovers and scam attempts. The first update allows multiple passkeys to be added to a single account, making it easier for users who operate WhatsApp on both Android and iPhone devices. Meta said more than one billion people now use passkeys on the messaging platform. The second update revamps two-step verification, enabling users to set longer passwords that include letters, numbers and special characters instead of a six-digit code. The third update, available on Android, expands the information shown for calls from numbers not saved in a user's contacts. Recipients will be able to see whether an incoming number originates from a different country and whether it shares any WhatsApp groups with the user. Meta said the additional caller details are intended to help users make a more informed decision before responding.
