Floods in northern Nepal kill 17, around 380 reported missing

KATHMANDU, Nepal — Flash floods in Nepal's mountainous north have killed 17 people and left around 380 others missing, officials said. Search and rescue teams were working in the affected areas, though severe damage to roads was hampering operations. Rasuwa district was among the hardest hit, with the Siyaprubesi and Temur areas suffering the worst impact. Floodwaters swept through villages, washing away homes and rendering roads, bridges and hydroelectric facilities unusable. Power outages were reported across the region. Officials said the missing included nationals of India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Malaysia. Authorities urged residents living along the banks of the Bhotekoshi River to move to higher ground in case water levels rise further.
