WASIT, Iraq โ The Wasit Provincial Council held an extraordinary session at the request of Governor Ali Salimon to address recurring power outages across the province. Council members reviewed the hardship caused to residents by the drop in electricity supply and approved a set of urgent measures aimed at resolving the crisis.
The council decided to form an official delegation tasked with meeting Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and the Minister of Electricity. The delegation is expected to present the current state of Wasit's power grid and request an increase in the province's energy allocation.
Members also called for shorter blackout hours, particularly as temperatures rise. The session concluded with a decision for the local administration and provincial council to monitor the electricity file on a daily basis until a lasting solution is reached.
