BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Higher Judicial Council has directed courts across the country to apply the country's counter-terrorism legislation to individuals involved in producing, operating or possessing drones. In a written statement, the council said the relevant courts should enforce the provisions of the 2005 Counter-Terrorism Law, No. 13, against those linked to drones when the aircraft are used for illegal purposes.
The council said the directive has been transmitted to all competent courts and that implementation will be closely monitored. It also stressed that counter-terrorism regulations will serve as the basis for adjudicating drone-related offences, framing the measure as part of efforts to prevent the use of drones in acts considered security threats.
Officials said the new framework is intended to create a deterrent effect against the illicit use of such equipment. No further details on specific cases or enforcement timelines were immediately available.
