KIRKUK, Iraq โ Three warplanes bombed positions believed to belong to ISIS in a border area between Kirkuk and Erbil, near the Altun Kupri district south of Kirkuk, a security source said. The strikes targeted sites in the Berdi area along Altun Kupri's borders, where members of the group were thought to be hiding.
The extent of the damage from the airstrikes was not immediately clear. Security units continued to investigate the incident, and no official statement had been released on which party carried out the bombing.
The airstrike came hours after the Counter-Terrorism Service carried out a separate operation against ISIS around Altun Kupri, killing one group member. Security forces said they were continuing to track remaining elements of the organization in the border areas between Kirkuk, Erbil and Tikrit.
