WASHINGTON, United States โ U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that the United States must secure greater energy flow through the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that economic pressure on Iran has altered Tehran's calculations over a deal with Washington.
Speaking in remarks reported by international media, Vance said Iran faces a choice between indefinite economic pressure and improved relations with the West, and maintained that the pressure campaign will yield results. He described the situation as a deliberate policy of sustained economic leverage aimed at changing Iran's behavior.
Vance noted that large volumes of oil and gas have continued to transit through the Strait of Hormuz despite Iranian attacks on commercial vessels. He emphasized that ensuring additional energy supply transits the waterway is essential and said U.S. economic pressure on Iran will continue. The vice president stated that the pressure will ultimately achieve its stated goal.
