Vance says Iran could access $300 billion Gulf reconstruction fund if it meets commitments

Speaking to CBS, Vance said Iranians could obtain the financing through the support of a Gulf states alliance and only if they keep the promises they have made. Vance warned that hardliners in Iran risk exaggerating the benefits they would receive while downplaying the concessions they would have to make in return. He added that the United States is open on many of the issues at the negotiating table. The vice president denied that Iran's access to $24 billion in frozen funds was part of an unpublished deal text. He said Washington is prepared to discuss lifting the freeze on those assets, but stressed that the main issue is the removal of sanctions, which is contingent on Iran meeting long-term commitments regarding its nuclear program.
