US Treasury's Bessent says Washington will track Iranian funds worldwide

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States will target Iranian government funds circulating globally, in comments to Fox News. Bessent said US authorities will track the numerous Iranian-linked funds moving through international channels. The Trump administration has argued that economic sanctions are more effective than military operations in weakening the Iranian government. As part of its revived maximum pressure campaign, Washington has imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 individuals, ships and aircraft, targeting Iran's oil trade, parallel banking system, and arms and logistics networks. Earlier this month, on the 24th, the United States added nine companies and four individuals linked to sanctioned Iranian billionaire Babak Zanjani to its sanctions list for their role in circumventing US restrictions. Iran's currency has fallen to historic lows in recent weeks as military tensions with Washington have risen and economic pressure has intensified. Inflation in Iran has exceeded 60 percent while the country's economy continues to contract.
