WASHINGTON, United States โ The United States and Iran are expected to begin a new round of talks in Doha, the capital of Qatar, this week, according to diplomatic sources. The negotiations are set to address the nuclear dispute between the two countries and regional security issues.
The talks come against a backdrop of renewed Gulf tensions that have disrupted commercial shipping traffic in recent weeks. Energy supply security and the safety of trade sea lanes are expected to be among the priority agenda items.
Qatar is hosting the meeting as part of efforts to keep diplomatic channels open between Washington and Tehran. Delegations from both countries are planned to attend, with Doha serving as the venue for the engagement.
