WASHINGTON, United States โ NATO is preparing to allocate $10-12 billion in additional military aid to Ukraine at a summit in Ankara in July, according to Italy's Corriere della Sera, which cited alliance sources. The amount represents roughly a quarter of the $40 billion in supplementary support pledged to Kyiv at the Washington and The Hague summits.
The newspaper reported that aid to Ukraine has slowed sharply ahead of the Ankara meeting, pointing to declining U.S. contributions and Washington's reluctance to back Kyiv. Corriere della Sera noted that the need for additional support mechanisms has eased following the European Union's release of a 90 billion euro aid package for Ukraine, with most of its 60 billion euro military component to be covered by European NATO members.
NATO's total assistance to Ukraine for 2026 is around $70 billion, though new commitments are expected to amount to slightly more than $10 billion. The newspaper quoted alliance sources as saying the effect of "Washington pulling the brakes" was now being felt clearly. Separately, Politico's European edition reported in June, citing diplomats from NATO member states, that the alliance was discussing new military aid commitments of 70 billion euros for Ukraine.
