US Department of Homeland Security tells undocumented immigrants to leave the country

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — The US Department of Homeland Security has called on all foreign nationals living in the United States without legal status to leave the country voluntarily, warning that those who refuse will face arrest and deportation. In a public statement, the department said individuals in the country illegally can arrange their own departure through the CBP Home application. The United States is offering $2,600 and a free plane ticket to those who agree to voluntary departure, along with the possibility of returning to the United States through legal channels in the future. Those who decline the offer will be arrested, removed and barred from re-entering the country, the department said. The announcement comes as part of President Donald Trump's hardline approach to illegal immigration. The Department of Homeland Security released the statement in response to a question about the arrest of a Ukrainian citizen who had been living in the country illegally for 15 years.
