BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The U.S. Army is preparing plans to carry out death sentences against four military prisoners, according to an internal document obtained by ABC News. The February plan, titled "Critical Justice Operation," outlines procedures for executing the four condemned men should the President grant approval. Under the proposal, prisoners would be transferred from the U.S. Army's military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the federal execution facility in Terre Haute, Indiana. If carried out, it would mark the first U.S. military execution since 1961. The four individuals facing execution are Nidal Hasan, Ronald Gray, Timothy Hennis, and Hasan Akbar. Army spokesperson Cynthia Smith said planning and training for executions are routine preparations and that no specific presidential order has been issued so far.
