UN Security Council to hold emergency session on Ukraine on Monday

UNITED NATIONS — The UN Security Council will convene an emergency session on Monday to discuss the situation in Ukraine, Denmark's Permanent Mission to the United Nations announced. The meeting was requested by the council's five European members, known as the E5, which includes Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia and the United Kingdom. Denmark, which holds the Security Council presidency for August, confirmed the session was convened at the request of the European group. The talks will be held under the title "Maintenance of Peace and Security in Ukraine" at 3 p.m. local time, according to the mission. The session comes amid ongoing military concentration along Ukrainian front lines and reported Russian advances on the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk axis. Ukraine's significant gaps in air defense capacity and the reported suspension of missile interception data shared with Kyiv have been cited among the battlefield challenges. European members are expected to call for an immediate halt to attacks on civilian infrastructure, continued Western support for air defense and the energy sector, and renewed diplomatic efforts.
