Uganda has closed its border crossings with the Democratic Republic of the Congo to curb the spread of the Ebola virus following a surge in infections. The decision was implemented by a local Ebola response team led by Vice President Jessica Alupo.
Uganda has recorded seven Ebola cases, including the death of a 59-year-old man in Kampala on May 14.
The infection risk escalated after healthcare workers became infected through contact with patients crossing the border.
Health Ministry Undersecretary Diana Atwine noted that the number of contacts has increased due to the family ties of the affected healthcare workers.
