Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr has announced the complete severance of political ties between the Saraya al-Salam militia and his political movement, formally integrating the group into state institutions.
Sadr stated the decision was made in alignment with national interests to mitigate risks currently threatening the country.
Under the restructuring, the group's armed activities, headquarters, specialized uniforms, and internal charters will be abolished. Its civilian structures will be transitioned into the 'Bunyad al-Mersus' project.
Prime Minister Ali ez-Zidi has responded by calling on all remaining armed groups to bring their operations under the umbrella of the state.
