WASHINGTON, United States — SEATTLE — Two people were killed in a shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival at Seattle Center on Saturday, with police reporting multiple other injuries.
Seattle police said multiple gunshots were fired during the annual food festival, which was drawing hundreds of local vendors and live music performances to the center. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area, while Harborview Medical Center announced it was receiving victims.
Witnesses told local media they heard several gunshots and then saw panicked crowds running in every direction. Downtown Seattle was crowded at the time, as a Seattle Seahawks football game was being held the same day.
Police said initial information on the exact number of victims and full circumstances was not immediately available. The Seattle Center Monorail was taken out of service for the remainder of the day for security reasons and was scheduled to resume operations the following day.
