WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran could be signed over the weekend or on Monday, describing Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's remarks on the imminence of a signing as "extremely positive." Trump also claimed Tehran had apologized for spreading "disinformation" about the terms of the deal.
Araghchi said the Islamabad memorandum of understanding was closer to implementation than ever, adding that details would be released to the public in due course. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately announced that a final formulation of the peace text between Washington and Tehran had been agreed.
A senior US administration official outlined key terms, saying the deal would require Iran to remove its nuclear materials from the country and dismantle related infrastructure. The official stressed that frozen Iranian funds would not be released until Iran meets its obligations under the agreement.
The official added that the deal would guarantee the Strait of Hormuz remains open to international shipping and include a commitment from Iran to stop financing terrorist groups. A report cited by the source noted that while Iranian officials had approved the agreement at a high level, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had not yet given final approval. No further details were immediately available on the timeline for his sign-off.
