Baghdad police arrest suspect in courier robberies in Karkh

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Karkh district have arrested a suspect linked to a string of robberies targeting delivery couriers, the Karkh Police Command said. According to the command, the operation was carried out under the supervision of Karkh Police Commander Maj. Gen. Adnan Hasan Hamad. Officers from the Karkh Anti-Crime Directorate's Yusufiya branch identified the suspect after extended surveillance and a broad investigation, then apprehended him in a planned ambush. The command said the suspect created fake orders on social media to lure jewelry store couriers, taking the deliveries and fleeing once the couriers reached the drop-off points. Investigators tracked his movements, located him and moved in to detain him. Legal proceedings have been opened against the suspect in line with standard procedures, the command added. No further details were immediately available.
