WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump's public approval has fallen to 33%, according to a new Economist/YouGov survey conducted ahead of November's midterm elections. The poll found 62% of respondents disapprove of his performance in office, with partisanship sharply dividing the results: 79% of Republicans back Trump, compared with just 4% of Democrats. Republican strategists warned that weakness on the war and economy files could put the party's control of Congress at risk in the midterm vote. Trump's approval has declined steadily since June, hitting a net rating of minus 25 points, the lowest popularity score among sitting US presidents. A Reuters/Ipsos poll last week measured his approval at 35%, while a Quinnipiac University survey in late July recorded it at 32%. On specific issues, roughly 40% of respondents approved of Trump's immigration policy, and only 30% said they trusted him to manage international crises. Additionally, 53% of those surveyed — including 85% of Democrats and 17% of Republicans — said they considered Trump too old for the presidency.
